All eyes are on Insomniac Games this fall when the company finishes up development on its long-awaited Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But from the sound of things, Marvel’s Wolverine may not be too far behind.
Per the Giant Bomb Game Mess Mornings podcast, host Jeff Grubb explained that the company would not be going for a huge open-world environment with Wolverine, different from its Spider-Man games. What’s more, Insomniac also intends to make the game M for mature when it comes to its rating – meaning that it will pile on the violence. Not too many Wolverine games in the past have gone for this mature-rated approach.
However, one noteworthy title did years ago – Activision’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. By taking said approach, it became a smash hit with the fans; so it shouldn’t be a total shock that Insomniac wants to take that same route.
Finally, there’s word that the game will be ready sometime in 2024, though there is the off- chance that, depending on development, that might become early 2025.
One final note – there won’t be a major X-Men tie-in with the game, namely with the movies. However, that could change, given that Hugh Jackman will return to his popular character for Marvel’s Deadpool 3, which is set to arrive sometime next year. We’ll just have to wait and see what Sony has up its sleeve.
